Restoration and Change of Use in Cheltenham

Restoration and Change of Use in Cheltenham

SF Planning are delighted to have secured full-planning permission for the restoration and change of use of an industrial building in the heart of Cheltenham.

Positive pre-application engagement with Cheltenham Borough Council and Gloucestershire Highways was instrumental in this project. As a result, an underutilised and neglected building will be converted to create three much needed dwellings. The resulting new homes in central Cheltenham will create a sustainable and attractive living environment for residents with associated landscaping and parking. Proposals were well received by both the council’s conservation officer and the Architects Panel.

The end of terrace, Victorian red brick building has seen numerous alterations and modern additions. Carefully considered design will see the original form visible once more, largely restored back to its former appearance.

Removal of modern extensions and roof structures, and restoration of many original features, including boundary walls, cast iron columns and window openings, will retain much of the building’s heritage. Through consideration of the historic character of the original building the character and appearance of the central conservation area will also be enhanced.

A great team effort working alongside RRA Architects and Rappor. Credit also to Cheltenham Borough Council officers for their pragmatic approach during the application process.
