AONB Replacement Dwelling Complete

Cheltenham Planning Permission Secured

We are proud to report that a planning permission secured by SF Planning Limited in June 2009 has been completed by our clients.  The site has undergone quite a transformation and our clients have decided to call their new home ‘Elysium’; we think this sums up the house perfectly:

Using different property consultants the previous owner had twice tried and failed (with one scheme also dismissed on appeal) to secure planning permission for a contemporary replacement dwelling.

Following purchase of the site by our clients, and instruction in early 2009, SF Planning worked with the architect, local residents, and Cheltenham Borough Council to build a case for the proposal based on the replacement dwelling working with the natural beauty of the landscape.  The build also has a unique appearance with all external walls clad with dry Cotswold natural stone.  We feel that the final build is such an achievement for all involved, especially when you consider what was on site originally.

During the determination of the planning application the Cheltenham Civic Society stated, “From the mock-ups the building looks more like an abandoned gun emplacement than an iconic example of contemporary architecture.” What do you think?  [We couldn’t have disagreed more at the time, and we are glad that the Council didn’t either!] It will be interesting to see how the building does in the annual Civic Awards!  UPDATE – April 2013 – ‘Elysium’ won the 2013 Civic Award for a new building.

We are very grateful to our clients for the opportunity to work on this project and for more information please contact Simon Firkins on 01242 231575 or simon@sfplanning.co.uk
